Occupational Therapy Services for Life’s Transitions
Real Support. Real Strategies.
At its core, occupational therapy is about helping people do life.
And because life doesn’t stop when health, capacity, or responsibilities change, we help you keep going with clarity, confidence, and support.
Why Choose Kawa Health?
What is Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy focuses on how people function in their daily lives–helping you do what you need to do, what you want to do, and what gives your life meaning.
At Kawa Health, we bridge treatment and real life by turning recommendations and goals into practical action in your everyday routines. Our work supports both physical and mental health, with a focus on how health impacts function at work, at home, and in relationships.
Mental Health
We help you develop tools to navigate challenges like anxiety, depression, PTSD, menopause, postpartum depression, and more. Together, we focus on calming the nervous system and deepening mind-body awareness.
Your sessions are personalized, using proven approaches like ACT, CBT, DBT, and PE Therapy to support your unique goals.
Cognitive Function
Are you dealing with brain fog, memory lapses, or cognitive fatigue? We’ll work with you on strategies that make daily life easier.
With targeted exercises and practical tools, you’ll build skills and support you can use day-to-day.
Daily Life Skills
We work with you to uncover and move past barriers—whether physical, cognitive, or emotional—that impact your daily life. From creating realistic routines to easing pain or managing health challenges, we focus on strategies that make life more doable.
We will support you in planning a return to work and finding ways to manage symptoms on the job.
Sleep
Sleep is a functional skill. We use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) within occupational therapy to address routines, sleep schedules, thoughts about sleep, and the daily demands affecting your nervous system and recovery.
Our approach is practical and tailored for real life—especially when sleep difficulties overlap with stress, mental health, concussion, shift work, or life transitions.
How We Work
We offer 15-minute consultations for any of our services to see how we can support you. If you’re coming via a referral, simply send us a completed referral form so we have all the details needed to provide personalized care.
Other programs we offer:
Interactive Workshops: Tailored sessions focusing on specific women’s health issues.
Group and Individual Support: Flexible support options to suit every woman's comfort and needs.
A Comprehensive Resource Library: Access to articles, guides, and tools to help you understand and manage your health journey.

Kawa Health—Where Health, Work, and Life Meet
“We believe life flows best when care is practical, meaningful, and meets people where they are.”
.
Kawa means river in Japanese. Our name is inspired by the Kawa Model of Occupational Therapy—a well-established, evidence-based framework used internationally by occupational therapists to understand how people experience and navigate daily life. The model views life as a river, shaped by a person’s health, environment, supports, and the challenges they encounter along the way.
At Kawa Health, this model is more than inspiration—it actively guides our practice. We focus on understanding the whole picture, not just symptoms. We help identify what’s blocking your flow, strengthen the supports around you, and create space for meaningful change so daily life becomes more manageable, sustainable, and aligned with how you want to live and work.

MScOT, BA
Co-Founder & Registered Occupational Therapist
Poonam brings over 8 years of clinical experience — and her own lived journey with endometriosis and infertility — to her work. She is known for her trauma-informed, empathetic approach and practical, personalized care.
Her background includes supporting individuals with complex mental health conditions to improve emotional regulation, cognitive function, and daily life. Poonam blends evidence-based therapy with movement, mindfulness, and curiosity, drawing on her passion for using the body to support mental health.
When the medical system fell short in her own life, she found strength in holistic healing. She brings an open mind and deep respect for the many ways people seek wellness, and is always willing to explore integrative supports that align with her clients’ needs.
Outside of work, you’ll find her kickboxing, lifting weights, or going on adventures with her husband and her Boxer, Bellaroonski — “Bella” — who is training to become a therapy dog!
-
Bella is our therapy dog-in-training and the heart of Kawa Health. Goofy, cuddly, and deeply loving, she has an uncanny knack for sensing when someone needs comfort.
Clients can request Bella in sessions, where she often supports exposure-based work, emotional regulation, and engagement. Her gentle presence helps people feel calmer, more grounded, and emotionally uplifted — sometimes within minutes.
Simply put, Bella has a special way of making challenging moments feel a little easier.
